Research Summary
Evolution of complex traits in laboratory fruit fly populations
Research Description
My research is focused on experimental evolution in laboratory populations of fruit flies, with an overall goal of understanding the phenotypic and genomic evolution of complex traits. For this purpose, I am studying two complex traits:
Flight performance, based on a 10-generation experiment, wherein flies were subjected to selection for greater traversal distance in a wind tunnel.
Adaptation to high temperature, which is enabled by an ongoing selection study wherein flies are raised under a temperature 7 degrees Celsius higher than control populations.
After several generations of selection, flies from experimental populations are subjected to several phenotype measurement assays, and analyses of their evolved genomes are carried out.
