Dr. Rex Cocroft selected for Byler Award

The Division congratulates Dr. Rex Cocroft on being selected for the William H. Byler Distinguished Professor Award.

Dr. Cocroft is internationally known for his research on vibrational communication in treehoppers. His studies have shed light on this understudied form of animal communication and demonstrated its richness and complexity. He also has shown, together with Dr. Heidi Appel at the University of Toledo, that plants also “listen" and respond to these vibrational communications.

The Byler award was established in 1978 by Dr. William H. Byler, senior vice president for research, U.S. Radium Corp., for recognition of outstanding abilities, performance and character.
