BS in Microbiology
Study the organisms that influence every aspect of life, from human health and disease to agriculture, biotechnology and the environment. Students gain a strong foundation in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology and infectious disease while developing research and laboratory skills.
Accelerated BS to DVM
Qualified students admitted to Mizzou’s College of Veterinary Medicine before completing their bachelor’s degree in the College of Arts and Science can earn credits from the professional curriculum and receive their BS in Microbiology after completing the second year of veterinary school.
Microbiology moves to College of Arts and Science
Beginning in fall 2026, the Microbiology program at the University of Missouri will move from the College of Veterinary Medicine to the College of Arts & Science (A&S) in the Division of Biological Sciences.
There are no changes to Microbiology degree requirements as part of this move. Students will continue following their existing degree plans and gain access to student support from the College of Arts and Science, such as academic advising for course planning and degree progress, Peer Navigators to help connect students with campus and academic resources, and career development support.

Microbiology is moving from the College of Veterinary Medicine to the College of Arts and Science, where it will be part of the Division of Biological Sciences.

Courses will move from the College of Veterinary Medicine to the College of Arts and Science for the 2026–2027 academic year. With this move, most microbiology courses will be offered under the new course designator MICRO.
- Current students: You will transition to A&S academic advising starting July 1, 2026.
- New students (Fall 2026 and after): You will be assigned an A&S advisor from the start.
