Bio

Dr. Sabrina Michael joined the Honors College as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Spring 2024, bringing her passion for science and education to a range of courses. Her home department is the Division of Biological Sciences. You’ll find her teaching many engaging honors courses often designed specifically for non-STEM majors. She makes science accessible and captivating through courses like From Molecules to the Cosmos, which covers a vast array of topics—from the mysteries of the universe and the intricacies of molecules to the wonders of ecological and geological sciences.

In her marine and freshwater biology course, she dives deep into the hidden depths of aquatic ecosystems, while in Sounds of Science, a bioacoustics course, introduces students to the captivating world of animal communication and bioacoustics methods. She also offers Shark-ology, where students delve into the fascinating biology and behavior of sharks. Dr. Sabrina also teaches Introduction to STEM, which introduces students to the thrill of scientific research, guiding them through designing experiments, asking big questions, and making discoveries—all while keeping the learning experience fun and hands-on.

In her ecology and evolution course, she takes students on a journey through the dynamic processes that shape life on Earth, from the adaptations of organisms to their environments to the evolutionary patterns that have led to the diversity of life we see today.

Dr. Sabrina earned her master’s degree in Biological Sciences from Eastern New Mexico University and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Missouri in Fall 2023, where her research focused on the collective behavior and decision-making of treehoppers. She is a passionate educator committed to making science an adventure for all students, regardless of their major.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Sabrina’s adventurous spirit shines through—she is a certified scuba diving instructor who loves swimming with sharks! When she isn’t teaching or exploring the underwater world, you can find her training in jiu-jitsu.
