Cole Yager and Carson Gaddie Receive STAR Recognition
Mizzou Biology congratulates undergraduate students Cole Yager and Carson Gaddie on earning their Student Training for Advancing Research (STAR) recognition from the MU Office of Undergraduate Research.
The STAR recognition is awarded to students who have completed a series of workshops and events that encourage students to get involved in research, develop their research skills, and make the most of their research experience. Events include how to design a research poster, how to apply for summer research programs, becoming a good lab citizen, travel and research grants, and so on.
Both students will be recognized by having their names listed in the fall forum booklet and receipt of a small gift at the end of the semester.
For Cole, the most valuable lesson he learned was in a workshop focused on responsible conduct of research. "The most important take home message from the talk was that it is our job [as researchers] to ensure correct material goes out to the public.”
Carson found the entire STAR Program worthwhile. “It behooves any student interested in academic research to take advantage of the S.T.A.R. program. By interacting directly with notable faculty, participants gain valuable insights towards proper lab conduct and professional networking. Additionally, the program highlights many unique avenues for scientific inquiry offered at the University of Missouri. I highly recommend this remarkable opportunity.”
