Edward Buckler, Ph.D.

Research Geneticist, Robert W. Holley Center for Agriculture and Health
“The PhD program in biological sciences did a tremendous job of giving me the flexibility to put together a program that combined evolution, archaeology, and corn genetics. This broad training by experts in the world in each of these topics has allowed me to develop a unique perspective that has been invaluable to my current success.”

Advisor: Timothy Holtsford, 1997: Maize domestication and molecular evolution.

Buckler was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2014, one of the most prestigious distinctions that can be bestowed on a scientist.

Buckler was named the Distinguished Senior Research Scientist of 2011 by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The award is the top scientific honor given by the research agency.
