The University of Missouri is a public AAU, Carnegie I institution. A comprehensive land grant institution, MU offers degrees in 17 schools and colleges, including the School of Medicine and the Colleges of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources and Veterinary Medicine. The Columbia campus is home to ~21,000 undergraduate and ~6,500 graduate and professional students.

Life Science CenterOne of our great strengths is the extent of interdisciplinary research fueled by the virtual absence of departmental boundaries and barriers. MU is home to vibrant interdisciplinary research and training programs in Conservation Biology, Genetics, Interdisciplinary Plant Sciences, Life Sciences, and Neuroscience.

The Schools of Medicine and Natural Resources and the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine are all located within a five-minute walk of the Division of Biological Sciences. Other on-campus specialized research facilities include the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center and the MU Research Reactor Center. Our faculty members are involved in collaborative MU Research Reactorprojects with faculty in the departments of Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences and Biochemistry in the College of Agriculture; Internal Medicine, Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, and Medical Pharmacology and Physiology in the School of Medicine; Forestry and Fisheries and Wildlife in the School of Natural Resources; and Chemistry and Physics in the College of Arts & Science; and Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering.
